Men's Soccer Defeats Niagara 2-0

Oct. 26, 2001

Niagara, NY--The Marist College men's soccer team kept its postseason hopes alive with a 2-0 win over host Niagara, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest, at Niagara this afternoon.

Brian Garofola played a role in both of the Red Foxes scoring chances on the evening, wasting no time in putting the game into Marist's hands. Just 3:36 into the contest, Garofola collected a rebound off of Niagara goalkeeper Dan O'Shea, and put it in the back of the net. In the 57th minute Garofola unleashed a shot that could not be handled by O'Shea and that Steve Murk put in the back of the net, giving Marist a 2-0 lead.

Carlos DeBrito was perfect in net on the evening stopping the six shots that the Purple Eagles put on net. O'Shea had nine saves for Niagara in the loss.

With the win Marist improves to 8-5-1 overall on the year and 3-3-1 in the MAAC. Niagara falls to 3-12-1 on the year.

The Red Foxes continue the drive to the MAAC Tournament on Sunday, October 28th, when they play Canisius College, in Buffalo, NY. Marist will wrap up the regular season on November 3rd at St. Peter's.
