Fairfield, Conn.--The Marist College football team dropped a 27-6 decision to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Football League opponent Fairfield University, this afternoon on Alumni Field.
In a closely contested first half the Red Foxes, who gave up a early first quarter touchdown, closed the deficiet to one point, when Alfredo Riullano (Callicoon, NY) took a sweep off the right side to make te score 7-6. Marist would not score again, as Fairfield tallied a field goal to end the half and then scored 17 unanswered points in the second half of the contest.
John Corneliusen (Atlantic Highlands, NJ) was 2-9 passing for 50 yards, as well as rushing for a team-high 20-yards on the afternoon. Chris Price (Danbury, Conn.) rushed for 20 yards on the afternoon as well, while Riullano finsihed the game with 16 yards. Rookie quarterback Brian Kiraly (Monroe, Conn.), seeing his first collegiate action, ran for 10 yards on his first play under center, finishing the game with 14 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, Shawn Lawson (Spring Valley, NY) had five solo tackles, raked up 7.5 total tackles on t day, including a solo and two assisted sacks. Scott Proscia (Port Jervis, NY), making his first start of the season, had three solo and two assisted tackles, as well as an interception.
The Red Foxes fall to 0-4 on the year, 0-2 in the MAAC, and will return to action on Saturday, October 13th, when they travel to New Rochelle, NY, to take on Iona College. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
