West Point, NY - The Marist College volleyball team lost a 3-0 match to host Army this evening in West Point, NY. The Red Foxes were unable to overcome the Cadets in a tightly contested first set and fell by a score of 35-33. Army then captured the second game 30-19 before sealing the victory by outlasting Marist 30-27 in the third and final game.
The Red Foxes received double-double efforts from senior Julie Gosewisch (Severna Park, MD) and freshman Aline dos Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil). Gosewisch led the team with 15 kills and 11 digs while Santos knocked down 11 kills and recorded 10 digs. Freshman setter Ryann Gillen (Paola, KS) also had a good day hitting the ball as she came away with six kills in 13 attempts for a .462 hitting percentage.
Army received 15 kills from Stacy Gervelis and 12 from Rachel Travis to go along with Beth Bellinger's 46 assists.
Marist will return to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference competition this weekend when they travel to Lawrenceville, NJ and face Rider at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 13th. The Red Foxes then travel to Baltimore, MD on Sunday, October 20th to face Loyola at 1:00 PM. They will return to the McCann Center on Saturday, October 20th when they take on Niagara at 2:00 PM
