Easton, PA-The Marist College men's basketball team rallied from a seven-point deficit, with 10:17 left in the game, to earn an 86-80 victory over host Lafayette College at the Kirby Sports Center this evening. Nick Eppehimer (Pottstown, PA) scored a career-high 17 points, 14 in the second half, including a three-pointer with :56 remaining to put the Red Foxes ahead for good.
Marist, which wins its first road non-conference game since December 9, 1999, led just onc, 3-2, 2:33 into the contest, but overcame a seven-point first half deficit to tue the game 41-41 at halftime. The Red Foxes, 4-1 on the year, took the lead 42-41 48 second into the second half, but fell behind and did not lead again until there was just 8:09 left in the game, when they took a 67-66 lead on a Sean Kennedy (Northport, NY) lead, ending a 8-0 run. The Leopards, 2-3 overall, would take the lead three more times in the next two minutes, before the Eppehimer three pointer gave the Red Foxes the lead for good.
Kennedy scored a game-high 17 points, including three three-pointers, while recording five assists and dishing out four assists. Eppehimer, who also knocked down three three-pointers, had ablock and three rebounds in the game. Jared Hunsaker (Ephraim, UT)scored a career-high 12 points for Marist, shooting 5-7 in the first half, and knockind down 2-3 from the free throw line. Nine Red Foxes scored three or more points, with Brandon Ellerbee (Plano, TX) connecting three times from behind the arc for a career-high nine points, and 10 Marist players scored at least one point in the contest. Matt Tullis (Orem, UT), who was in foul trouble early, had seven points and six rebounds in the second half.
Marist shot 45.2 (28-62) percent from the field on the evening, knocking down 10-24 from behind the three point line, for a 41.7 percent success rate. The Red Foxes, who had 29 rebounds, shot 80 percent from the free throw line, 20-25. Lafayette shot 52.9 (27-51) percent from the floor for the game, but turned the ball over 19 times, to the Red Foxes six turnovers.
Marist will return to action on Saturday, December 1st, when the Red Foxes will take on Bowling Green State University. Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm at Anderson Arena.
