Lewisburg, PA - The Marist College women's basketball team was down by as many as 16 points in the second half before they came from behind to defeat host Bucknell University 69-64 today in Lewisburg, PA. The Red Foxes trailed the whole game until sophomore Nina Vecchio (Homdel, NJ) made a three point field goal with 17 seconds remaining to put them ahead 67-64. The Bison missed a three-point attempt and senior Marie Fusci (Levittown, NY) grabbed the rebound. She then made two free throws to seal the win for the Red Foxes.
Fusci led the team with 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while sophomore Kerry Sullivan (Crompound, NY) chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds in just 17 minutes of action. Senior Diesa Seidel (Red Hook, NY) helped lead the Marist comeback scoring all 13 of her points in the second half.
Kate Franks was the high scorer for Bucknell with 18 points. The Bison also received 15 points from Molly Creamer and 11 pionts, eight rebounds from Kate Rounsley.
Trailing 33-24 at the break, Marist shot 55.6 percent from the floor and out scored Bucknell 45-31 in the second half. The Red Foxes (3-2) connected on 39.7 percent from the field for the game, while the Bison (3-2) hit 40.7 percent of their field goals.
The Red Foxes will be back home in the McCann Center for their next game at 7:00 PM on Friday, December 7th. Manhattan will be in town as Marist opens play in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
