Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College women's basketball team fell to the University of Delaware 87-72 today at the McCann Center. Senior Marie Fusci (Levittown, NY) scored her 1,000th career point for the Red Foxes, becoming the tenth player at Marist to accomplish the feat. Fusci, who entered the contest with 999 career points nailed a three pointer on the Red Foxes first possession 15 seconds into the game.

Marist held a 38-30 lead with 6:17 remaining in the first half when Delaware went on a 21-4 run and went into the locker room with a 51-42 advantage. The Red Foxes were unable to cut into the Blue Hen's margin in the second half as Delaware sealed the victory.

Fusci knocked down six threes and led the Red Foxes with 20 points and six assists. Sophomore Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ) also played well for Marist scoring 16 points and grabbing seven rebounds in 19 minutes on 7-11 from the field. Junior Maureen Magarity (Wappingers Falls, NY) recorded a double-double scoring 14 points and pulling down a game high ten rebounds in her first game for the Red Foxes since transferring to Marist from Boston College last winter.

Delaware was led by 26 points from Megan Dellegrotti and 22 points from Allison Trapp. Tiara Malcom and Christine Cole, who each added 13 points for the Blue Hens, also helped the offense.

The Red Foxes (.475) shot better from the field than Delaware (.463) but, the Blue Hen's made 22-31 from the foul line compared to 8-9 for Marist. The Red Foxes also committed 27 turnovers to just 12 for Delaware.

Next up for Marist is a trip out west to California when they travel to Los Angeles on Friday, December 28th to face Loyola-Marymount (CA) at 7:00 PM PST. The Red Foxes will then head south to Irvine, CA and square off against UC-Irvine at 2:00 PM PST on Sunday December 30th. The next home game will be on Saturday, Janurary 5th at 5:00 PM when Marist welcomes Columbia to the McCann Center.
