March 13, 2001 The Red Fox softball team went 1-1 today picking up its second win of the season by defeating the University of Minnesota-Duluth 6-4. Marist fell to Bucknell, 0-5 in the second game bringing the Red Foxes to 2-6 on the season.
Sophomore Nicole Fox (Temecula, CA) notched her first win of the season against the Bulldogs of Minnesota. Fox tallied four strikeouts and allowed only six hits in the game. A double by freshman Kara Lacey (Cheshire, CT) put Marist on the board when she drove in two runs in the fourth inning putting Marist up 2-1. Minnesota answered with two additional runs but senior Amanda Koldjeski (Scranton, PA) silenced the Bulldogs in the fifth with a two run homerun. An error on the Bulldogs would bring home catcher Bobbi Jo Gonnello (Clifton, NJ) to secure the insurance run.
Senior Melanie Kasack (Bethel, CT) registered four strikeouts before Bucknell ignited a scoring drive in the sixth inning. The Bison scored four runs on three hits and a Marist error. A Bucknell home run in the top of the seventh brought the score to 5-0. Meaghan Gosh (East Greenbush, NY) created hope on the Red Fox bench in the bottom of the seventh with a single to right center but Marist could not produce as the Red Foxes faced their sixth loss.
The softball team will return to action tomorrow, March 14th to face Radford University at 9:00 a.m.
