Marist College Postpones Intercollegiate Events Through September 16th

Sept. 12, 2001

Poughkeepsie, NY -- Marist College, in conjunction with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and all its member schools, announced today that all intercollegiate events, through Sunday, September 16th, will be postponed, in the wake of yesterday's terrorist acts.

"The Marist College Athletic Department supports the decision of the MAAC," Director of Athletics Tim Murray said. "While we are looking to return to normalcy in our lives, we feel that this postponement allows the appropriate period of reflection and mourning."

Nearly all of the Red Foxes fall teams are affected by the postponement. Home events affected are the women's soccer game against Lafayette, Friday, the men's tennis home matches Saturday, and the home football game Saturday night. The women's volleyball team was scheduled to compete in the Columbia Invitational, Friday and Saturday, while the cross-country teams were set to run at the Wagner Invitational Saturday morning. The women's tennis team was set to play at Monmouth on Saturday as well. The men's soccer game scheduled for this afternoon at St. Peter's, was also postponed.

Further information on the status of Marist College athletic events will be available on the Red Fox Scores hotline, which can be reached by dialing 845-575-3699, and pressing 5, or online at WWW.GOREDFOXES.COM.

Information will be made available as events are rescheduled.
