Poughkeepsie, NY--The Marist College women's tennis team captured its fall and home opener, defeating Sacred Heart University, 6-0, this afternoon. The contest marked the first intercollegiate competition for any Red Fox athletic team in a week.
The Red Foxes (1-0) were dominating in their victory over the visiting Pioneers, not dropping a single set in singles competition, and capturing all three doubles matches. Amanda Doetsch captured the number one singles match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Jeanie Simpson. Diana Perachio defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-3, while Christy Solloum had her match shortened by darkness. Cara Blist won easily for Marist, 6-0, 6-1, and Jennifer Edwards captured her singles match, 6-0, 6-5.
The doubles teams of Blist and Perachio, Edwards and McGeever, and Solloum and Brianne Douglass swept their respective contests.
The Red Foxes return to action this weekend when they travel to the Bucknell Tournament.
