Red Foxes Defeat St. Peter's

Poughkeepsie, NY- The Marist College women's soccer team was victorious today in their home opener defeating St. Peter's College by a score of 6-0. The victory improved the Red Foxes to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference while St. Peter's fell to 0-4 and 0-1 in the MAAC.

The six goals scored set a new school record, breaking the previous mark of four that was last accomplished in 1997. The Red Foxes also recorded five assists and had 17 total points, which are new school records as well.

The Red Foxes found the net three times in the first half to take a 3-0 lead at the break. Sophomore Tara Savidge (New Hyde Park, NY) scored first before freshman Courtney Moore (Suffield, CT) was assisted by junior Molly Hanley (Simsbury, CT) and junior Katie Wilt (Columbia, CT) fed freshman Laura Clark (Syracuse, NY).

The second half saw Maria Reoch (Shirley, NY) scoring on an assist from Jenny Shanks (Sound Beach, NY). Jenny Greenbaum (Northport, NY) joined the scoring off an assist from Reoch before Savidge assisted freshman Sarah Smith (Fairfield, CT) to rounded out the scoring for the Red Foxes.

Junior goalkeepers Mellanie Nai (Suffield, CT) and Meredith Fabian (Merrick, NY) combined for the shutout and had three saves for the Red Foxes. Sarah Cronin stopped 11 shots on the day for St. Peter's.

The Red Foxes next game will be Wednesday, September 26th when they travel to New Rochelle, NY to face MAAC opponent Iona. Their next game at Leonidoff Field is noon on Sunday, September 30th against Maine.
