Poughkeepsie, NY---The Marist College men's soccer team (4-2) was handed its second loss of the season by Columbia University (2-1-1) on Tuesday evening, in a score of 3-1, on Leonidoff Field. This evening's match had some of New York State's finest, with number three ranked Marist taking on Columbia, who is ranked ninth.
The only goal for Marist was netted by senior Adam Koster (Scotch Plains, NJ), who scored 87:29 into the contest. The Lions led at the half 1-0, and then converted two more goals in the second half to secure the victory.
This evening's game showcased the top two goalies in men's division I soccer for the number of saves per game. The Red Foxes' Carlos DeBrito (Union, NJ), and Columbia's Mike Ewers (Westford, MA), are ranked first and second respectively, averaging 8.4 and 8.33 saves per game. DeBrito made eight saves for the evening, while Ewers stopped five shots in 71:27 minutes of play.
The Lions led in shots, 15-10, as well as corner kick opportunities, 4-3.
The Red Foxes will next take on Fordham University this Friday, September 28,
at 7:00pm in Leonidoff Field.
