Red Fox Football Falls to St. Peter's

Poughkepsie, NY - The Marist College football team lost to St. Peter's College by a final of 13-7 this evening on Leonidoff Field.

St. Peter's running back Derek Clayton gave the Peacocks a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when he broke lose on a 68 yard touchdown run. The Peacock lead was extended to 10-0 when James Galea connected on a 32-yard field goal attempt with 5:03 left to play in the first half.

Marist cut the deficit to three when junior Alfredo Riullano (Callicoon, NY) scored on a 1-yard touchdown run. Riullano's score capped off a 23 play 81-yard drive that took 12:22 off the clock.

St. Peter's responded with another James Galea field goal, this time from 21-yards, on their next possession, to take a 13-7 lead with 8:22 remaining in the contest.

The Red Foxes had one last chance when sophomore John Healy III (Milford, Conn.) recovered a Clayton fumble on the St. Peter's 30-yard line. The Marist come back ended four plays later when the Red Foxes were unable to gain a first down.

Corneliusen was 7-17 passing, with one interception, and rushed for 20 yards on two attempts for the Red Foxes. Riullano rushed for 48 yards and scored the lone Marist touchdown on the evening.

Clayton carried the ball 20 times, totaled 187 yards, and scored one touchdown for the Peacocks.

The Red Foxes will travel to Connecticut next Saturday October 6th to take on Fairfield at 1:00 P.M. They will return to Leonidoff field on Saturday October 27th when they will be in action against Georgetown at 1:00 P.M.
