POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Junior, forward Nick Eppehimer (Pottstown, PA) scored four points in the final six seconds of play to lead Marist (10-5, 4-2) over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference leading Manhattan (12-2, 4-1) this evening in the James J. McCann Center. The Marist victory snapped a 12-game Jasper win streak, which was the third longest in the nation.
Eppehimer's 21-footer from the left baseline with six seconds remaining gave Marist a 57-56 lead over Manhattan. The Jaspers were unable to convert on their next possession and sent Eppehimer to the line with 2.1 ticks remaining. Eppehimer, who scored eight of his 10 points in the second half, converted on the first of his two free-throw attempts to seal the margin of victory.
Marist extended its 33-31 halftime lead to as much as seven points (50-43, 8:36) before Manhattan took its only lead of the second half (54-55) with 2:44 to play setting up Eppehimer's heroics.
Senior Rick Smith (Bladensburg, MD) scored 15 points while freshman Brandon Ellerbee (Plano, TX) netted a career-high 14 points to round out the Red Foxes scoring in double figures.
The Jaspers were led by sophomore guard Luis Flores who scored a game-high 23 points while Noah Coughlin was the only other Jasper with double-digit points with 10.
The Red Foxes return to action on Tuesday, January 15th as they host Iona in the McCann Center. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
