Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College women's basketball team was upended by Canisius 92-80, snapping the Red Foxes' four game win streak this afternoon at the McCann Center. The first half saw five lead changes and three ties before a 6-2 run by Canisius gave them a 45-42 halftime advantage. In the second period, the Red Foxes tied the game 60-60 with 10:16 remaining when the Golden Griffs went on a 10-0 and gained control of the game.
Marist was led by senior Diesa Seidel (Red Hook, NY) with 23 points and sophomore Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ) who recorded her fourth career double-double with 12 points and a career high 13 boards. Junior Sarah Tift (North Kingstown, RI) also chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds for the Red Foxes.
Shauna Geronzin totaled a game high 30 points and 14 rebounds for Canisius to lead four players in double figures. Jill Knapic (19), Tricia Breznitsky (11), and Jenel Stevens (11) also reached double figures for the Golden Griffs.
For the game the Red Foxes were out shot by Canisius from the field .409-.431. The Golden Griffs nailed 9-23 (.391) attempts from beyond the arc, while Marist connected on just 2-10 (.200) from downtown. Canisius also held a slight 44-43 edge in rebounding as well.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Wednesday, January 16th when they travel to Albany, NY to face Siena at 7:00 PM. The team will then return home to take on Loyola (MD) at 7:00 PM on Saturday, January 19th at the McCann Center.
