Loudonville, NY - The Marist College women's basketball team was defeated 79-51 by host Siena this evening in Loudonville, NY. The Red Foxes started off slow scoring just two points in the first ten minutes as they fell behind 14-2. Siena then extended the margin to 37-17 at the half. Marist scored six straight to start the second period to cut the lead to 14 (37-23), but were unable to get any closer and fell to 8-8 on the year and 4-3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Saints won their 11th straight game and now stand at 11-3 and 6-0 in the MAAC.
The Red Foxes received a game high 24 points and nine rebounds from senior Diesa Seidel (Red Hook, NY). Fellow senior Marie Fusci (Levittown, NY) nailed two threes and totaled eight points, while sophomore Nina Vecchio (Holmdel, NJ) dished out eight assists and made three steals.
Erica Anderson led five Siena players in double figures with 15 points and Nathalie Marchino and Liene Jansone each scored 14 points. Jolene Johnston with 13 and Gunta Basko with 10 rounded out the double figure scoring for the Saints.
Marist was outshot .500-.304 from the field by Siena who also held a 43-32 advantage in rebounding. The Saints connected on 9-20 (.450) from downtown, while the Red Foxes hit just 2-9 (.222).
The Red Foxes will return to action this Saturday, January 19th when they play host to Loyola (MD) at the McCann Center. Game time is set for 7:00 PM
