New Rochelle, NY - The Marist College women's basketball team outscored Iona 44-25 in the second half to earn a 71-57 win at Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Iona this evening in New Rochelle, NY. The first half saw 13 lead changes before a 7-2 run by the Gaels but them ahead 32-27 at intermission. The Red Foxes scored the first nine points of the second half to take a 36-32 lead. Iona tied the game at 49-49 with 8:20 remaining when a 20-1 run by Marist put the game away. The Red Foxes snapped a four game losing streak and improve to 2-1 in the MAAC and 5-6 overall, while the Gaels fell to 0-3 in the MAAC and 1-9 on the season.
Junior Sarah Tift (Kingstown, RI) and Diesa Seidel (Red Hook, NY) each scored 12 points in the second half as the Red Foxes shot .552 as a team after halftime. Tift tied a season high 16 points, while Seidel had 14 and junior Maureen Magarity (Wappingers Falls, NY) added ten for Marist. Senior Marie Fusci (Levittown, NY) pulled down a career high 10 rebounds to go along with her nine points.
Charlotte Rocker scored a game high 20 points and Jessica Attinetty added 10 points for the Gaels.
The Marist defense limited Iona to .267 shooting in the second half and .351 for the game. The Red Foxes shot .422 from the field in the game and out rebounded the Gaels 43-30.
The Red Foxes will return to action this Saturday, January 5th when they host Columbia at 5:00 PM at the McCann Center. Marist will then continue play in the MAAC on Tuesday, January 8th when they travel to Connecticut to take on Fairfield at 7:00 PM.
