Riverdale, NY - The Marist College women's basketball team fell 81-71 at Manhattan this evening at Draddy Gymnasium in Riverdale, NY. The game went back and forth early in the first half when the Red Foxes went on an 8-0 run to take a 25-17 lead at 9:15 in the first period. Manhattan then fought back and headed to the locker room with a slim 38-37 lead. With the game tied at 55-55 midway through the second half the Jaspers put together an 11-3 run to move ahead 66-58 and gain control of the contest with 4:24 remaining. Manhattan converted 6-7 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Marist was led by junior Sarah Tift's (North Kingstown, RI) double-double effort. She shot 7-10 from the field and totaled 17 points and 10 rebounds for the seventh double-double of her career. Senior Diesa Seidel (Red Hook, NY) scored 13 points, while sophomore Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ) added 12 points. The Red Foxes also received 11 points from sophomore Nina Vecchio (Holmdel, NJ) who nailed three shots from beyond the arc.
Rosalee Mason scored a career high 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds on 11-24 from the field and 8-11 from the foul line to pace the Jaspers offensive attack. Donette Reed (18) and Tiffany Schettig (11) also reached double figures for Manhattan.
Both teams totaled 40 rebounds for the game, but the Red Foxes (9-9, 5-4) committed 21 turnovers to just nine for the Jaspers (10-7, 5-3). Manhattan shot 19-26 from the foul line in the second half compared to 5-8 for Marist. The Red Foxes shot .467 from the field, while the Jaspers converted on .429 percent of their attempts from the floor.
Marist will return to action this Sunday, January 27th at 2:00 PM when they host Rider at the McCann Center.
