NEW YORK (AP) - Von Damien Green scored 18 points and Luis Flores added 14,
including two tiebreaking free throws with 29.7 seconds left, to lead Manhattan
past Marist 67-62 on Tuesday night.
Dave Holmes had 10 points and 10 rebounds for Manhattan (14-3, 6-2 Metro
Atlantic Athletic Conference), which outrebounded Marist 40-29.
Rick Smith scored 17 points to lead the Red Foxes (12-6, 6-3). Nick
Eppehimer added 13 points, and Sean Kennedy 11 points.
After Flores hit his two foul shots to give Manhattan a 64-62 lead, his
defense following the inbounds pass to Kennedy resulted in the Red Foxes' 18th
turnover. Flores then increased Manhattan's lead to 65-62 when he sank the
second of two foul shots with 11.1 seconds left.
Kennedy attempted a potential tying 3-pointer from the top of the key, but
his shot missed badly to the left of the iron and Holmes grabbed the rebound
for the Jaspers. Holmes was immediately fouled and sealed the win by making
both of his foul shots with 3.2 seconds to go.
The Jaspers led 35-27 at halftime, but Marist fought back to lead by as many
as seven points, 56-49, on Kennedy's three-point play with 7:42 to go.
