Young Records Second Straight Double-Double To Propel Red Foxes To 67-53 Win Over Loyola

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Marist College men's basketball team earned a come from behind 67-53 over visiting Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Loyola, this evening at the McCann Center.

The Red Foxes (14-6, 8-3) trailed 29-24 at the intermission and Loyola (2-17, 1-9) extended the lead to as many as seven points, 33-26 just 1:16 into the second half. Dennis Young (Warrenton, GA) converted a field goal and Rick Smith (Bladensburg, MD) and Sean Kennedy (Northport, NY) sandwiched three-point baskets around a Loyola free throw to knot the game at 34-34 with 16:33 left in the contest. The 10-0 run ended with 15:00 left in the contest, on another Greyhound free throw, with the Red Fox lead 38-35. Marist out scored the Greyhounds 29-18 over the final 15 minutes to earn the victory.

Young had his second consecutive double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down a career-high 13 rebounds in the effort for Marist. Four Red Foxes had eight or more boards in the game, as they held a decisive 49-28 advantage on the glass. Kennedy also tallied 13 points in the win, while adding nine boards and eight assists for the Red Foxes. Matt Tullis (Orem, UT) had 10 points, eight boards and a career-high five blocked shots. Marist shot 53.3 percent in the second half, finishing at 41.3 for the game.

The Greyhounds had just one player in double-digits, as Lucious Jordan had 10 points. Bernard Allen led the team with eight rebounds, to go along with nine points in the game. Loyola finished with three fewer turnover, 15-12.

Rookie Brandon Ellerbee (Plano, TX) finished with nine points, all in the second half, and three assists. David Bennett (Salt Lake City, UT) had six points, and three steals, to go along with two assists.

Marist will return to action on Sunday, February 3rd, when they travel to Baltimore, MD to finish the home and home set with the Greyhounds. Game time is set for 4:00 pm and the game can be heard live on WKIP 1450 AM.
