POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Marist College Red Fox Men's Basketball team fell to 9-4 on the year with a 70-66 loss to the Purple Eagles of Niagara University this evening in the James J. McCann Recreation Center. The victory improved Niagara to 6-8 on the year. Marist senior guard Sean Kennedy (Northport, NY) recorded the first triple double of his career, scoring a game-high 18 points, pulling down 10 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists.
Kennedy drained a three-pointer with 1:39 left in the contest to tie the game 62-62, but Niagara converted 6-8 from the line in the final 51 seconds to seal the win. Marist, which falls to 3-1 in MAAC play, was 1-3 with a turnover in the final minute of play.
Niagara, which moves to 2-1 in league play, was led by the 15-point, 13-rebound effort of James Reaves (Rochester, NY). Tremmell Darden (Las Vegas, NV) led the Purple Eagles with 17 points.
Marist, which shot 40.4 percent from the floor for the game, took a 31-27 lead into the intermission, but was outrebounded 20-14 in the second-half, 41-32 for the game. Niagara connected on 45.8 percent of its field goals.
Matt Tullis (Orem, UT) scored 12 points for the Red Foxes, and rookie Brandon Ellerbee (Plano, TX) scored in double-digits for the second game in a row, scoring 10 points. Tullis also had five rebounds and four blocks in the game, to go along with two steals and two assists.
The Red Foxes will take to the road for a Monday, January 7th contest against Canisius. The game to be played in Buffalo, NY, will tip-off at 7:00 pm.
