Box Score

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College men's soccer team scored two late goals to shut out St. Peter's 2-0 in their conference home opener at North Field on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 3-7-1 on the season, and 2-1 in the MAAC. The Peacocks fall to 7-4-2 on the year, and 1-2 in the conference.

The two teams battled to a scoreless tie through the first half as Marist outshot St. Peter's 7-4. It appeared that the game was going to go into overtime until Christopher Zitkevitz (Elmer, NJ) scored his first goal of the year from 10 yards out, at the 75-minute mark, off a pass from Joseph Crespo (Bolton, CT) to take the lead.

John Moschella, the Peacocks starting goalkeeper, received a red card and was ejected from the game with about three minutes left when he tripped Crespo as he was trying to score.

St. Peter's played aggressive in the last ten minutes of regulation, but the Red Foxes were able to withstand the attack. Bruno Machado (Danbury, CT) scored with under 10 seconds left in the match to seal the win when he snuck the ball past the goalkeeper from five yards out off a long pass from Crespo.

John Balzarini (Holbrook, NY) played the entire game in goal and recorded seven saves for his second shutout of the year.

The Red Foxes return to action on Sunday, October 20, when they host Manhattan at 7:00 p.m. The site of the match will most likely be at Leonidoff Field, but has yet to be determined. For updates on the match, check the Marist College sports website.
