Poughkeepsie, NY-The Marist College women's tennis team won its match against Monmouth 6-1 this afternoon at the Dutchess Tennis and Racquet Club. The Red Foxes are now 2-0 on the season.
Freshman, Yana Tikhonko (Brooklyn, NY) defeated Gina Fay 6-4, 6-2. Diana Perachio (Newtown, Conn.) beat Danielle Brunelli 6-2, 6-1 in singles play. Sophomore Amanda Doetsch (Freehold, NJ) shutout her opponent, Lisa DePaolo, by a score of 6-0, 6-0. Yana Krugly (Staten Island, NY) defeated Lauren McCormick 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Courtney McGeever (Wickliffe, OH), lost her singles match against Anneabeth Bailey 7-5, 6-0, while Tara Dolan (Hopewell Junction, NY) defeated Kelly Phoebus 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles competition, Doetsch and Perachio teamed up to defeat Brunelli and McCormick 8-6. Tikhonko and Krugly won their match 8-3 against Fay and Phoebus. In the final doubles match, Monmouth's DePaolo and Bailey defeated McGeever and Katie Szymanski (Scituate, Mass.) 8-4.
The Red Foxes return to action Friday, October 4th, when they travel to Amherst, Mass. to play the University of Massachusetts Minutemen at 3:00 p.m. On Saturday, October 5th, Marist takes on Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. for a 1:00 p.m. match up.
