Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College men's soccer team rallied from a 2-1 deficit late in the second half by scoring three goals in a span of ten minutes. The result was a 4-2 victory over conference foe Niagara at North Field on Friday afternoon. The Red Foxes improve to 6-8-1 on the year, with a 5-2 record in MAAC play.
Marist struck early when Christopher Zitkevitz (Elmer, NJ) scored four minutes into the game on a header, sneaking the ball past the goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead. Joseph Crespo (Bolton, CT) provided the assist on the play.
Niagara (4-8-2, 3-2-1) tied the game up in the 14th minute when Ricky Fleck scored on a header off a free kick by Mark Spooner. The Purple Eagles took the lead when Chris Seale pushed the ball past the goalkeeper from five yards out.
The Purple Eagles looked like they were going to win the game, until the Red Foxes made a comeback. David Musinski (Hicksville, NY) scored in the 75th minute off a pass from Rob DePeiro (Ramsey, NJ) from five yards out to tie the game.
Musinski would score again five minutes later from 10 yards out off a nice feed from Bruno Machado (Danbury, CT) to give the Red Foxes the lead. Machado scored with under six minutes left in the game when he dribbled past the goalkeeper for an unassisted goal to seal the win.
John Balzarini (Holbrook, NY) picked up the win in goal for the Red Foxes and collected four saves.
The Red Foxes return to action on Sunday, November 3rd, when they host Canisius in their last home match of the season at 1:00 p.m. Marist College will be honoring the senior class of 2003 prior to the match.
