Loudonville, NY - The Marist College men's soccer team ended regular season play with a 4-1 loss to Siena on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Red Foxes to 7-9-1 on the season, with a 6-3 record in the MAAC. Despite the loss, Marist has already clinched a berth in the MAAC Tournament.
The Saints scored early when C.J. Melilli scored the first of his three goals seven minutes into the game, as he broke through the Marist defense off a pass from Tom Santoro.
Christopher Zitkevitz (Elmer, NJ) opened the scoring in the second half as he tied the game at 1-1 on a direct kick that was just out of reach of Saints goalkeeper Jonathan Hicks in the 47th minute.
Siena (5-9-3, 5-2-2) would break the tie 30 seconds later when Melilli scored off a rebound. Two minutes later, Melilli put away his third goal of the game off a throw in by T.J. Helly. Tom Santoro made the score 4-1 when he knocked in a header off a cross by Vinny Russo.
John Balzarini (Holbrook, NY) and Mike Valenti (Sicklerville, NJ) split time in goal for the Marist, collecting two saves each.
The Red Foxes return to action when they compete in the MAAC Tournament set to be played on November 15th-17th.
