Bridgeport, Conn.-The Marist College women's basketball team defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Fairfield, 57-51 tonight at the Arena at Harbor Yards in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The Red Foxes improve to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in MAAC play.
Junior forward Maureen Magarity (Wappingers Falls, NY) recorded her second career double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing ten rebounds. Magarity went 6-6 from the free throw line, helping the team go 15-20 in the game. Junior Nina Vecchio (Holmdel, NJ) went 3-6 from both the field and from behind the arc, scoring a season-high, 11 points.
Freshman Kristen Vilardi (Fishkill, NY) made her first start of her collegiate career as she went 1-4 from the field, hitting a three-pointer in the second half helping the Red Foxes take the lead for good.
The Red Foxes shot a season-high 41 percent from the field, while the Stags shot a mere 28 percent.
Marist returns to action Thursday, December 12th, when they host the University of Hartford Hawks at 7:00 p.m. in the McCann Center.
