New York City, NY-The Marist College women's basketball team fell to the Columbia University Lions 65-53 tonight in a non-conference match-up at Levien Gymnasium. The Red Foxes are now 4-3 overall with a 1-1 record in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.
The Red Foxes led throughout the first half, at one point by 12, while ending up with a 28-25 lead going into the second half. The Lions came out charging in the second, with Sue Altman leading the way for Columbia. Altman hit three from behind the arc as she finished with 26 points, helping the Lions seal the victory.
Junior forward Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ) led the Red Foxes with 16 points and seven boards, hitting 7-11 from the field. Maureen Magarity (Wappingers Falls, NY) and Nina Vecchio (Holmdel, NJ) both scored in double digits with 11 and ten points, respectively.
Marist shot 34 percent from the field, while Columbia shot near 40 percent.
The Red Foxes return to action Monday, December 23rd when they travel to Newark, DE to face non-conference opponent, University of Delaware Blue Hens for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off.
