Poughkeepsie, NY-The Marist College women's basketball defeated the Boston University Terriers 72-56 tonight at the McCann Center. This marks the first win against the Terriers in Marist history. Boston leads the series 2-1. The Red Foxes are now 5-4 on the season, 1-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.
The Red Foxes took the lead for good at the 3:20 mark in the first half when Sarah Tift (North Kingstown, RI) made a jump shot off her own rebound, making the score 22-20. Marist's largest lead came at 9:40 in the second half when Vicki Wancel (Flushing, NY) made a three-pointer, giving the Red Foxes an 18-point lead.
Junior forward, Maureen Magarity (Wappingers Falls) led Marist with a 22-point effort, while grabbing seven boards. Megan Vetter (Havertown, PA) had her second double-digit game of the season, scoring 12, going 2-4 from behind the arc. Junior guard Nina Vecchio (Holmdel, NJ) handed out five assists for the Red Foxes.
Marist returns to action in the last game of 2002 when they travel to Providence College to take on the Friars on December 30th for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. The Red Foxes return home on January 3rd when they play the University of Pennsylvania in what will be the last non-conference match-up of the season at 7:00 p.m. at the McCann Center.
