Poughkeepsie, NY - St. Peter's College downed the Marist College women's basketball team 66-51 this afternoon at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes started out well taking an 11-3 lead in the first five minutes of the contest. The Peahens then outscored Marist 23-4 over the next ten minutes to claim a 26-15 advantage and then went into the locker room ahead 38-21. In the second half, the Red Foxes limited St. Peter's to .276 percent shooting from the field and outscored the Peahens 30-28. Marist closed the gap to with in ten three times but unable to get any closer as they fell to 9-14 on the season and 5-9 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). St. Peter's improved to 20-4 on the year and 13-2 in the MAAC.
Leading the way for the Red Foxes was senior Diesa Seidel (Red Hook, NY) who had a team high 10 points and eight rebounds. Junior Sarah Tift (N. Kingstown, RI) and sophomores Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ) and Nina Vecchio (Holmdel, NJ) each added eight points a piece.
Layla Willis had a game high 18 points and added nine rebounds for St. Peter's which also received a double double from Tanesha Seaton with 12 points and 14 boards. Tyiana Sears chipped in 11 points and nine boards off the bench.
Marist shot .429 from the field and held the Peahens to .333 shooting, but were hurt by a 48-30 advantage in rebounding by St. Peter's.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Thursday, February 14th at 7:00 PM when they travel to Baltimore, MD to take on Loyola. The next home game for Marist will be on Friday, February 24th at 7:00 PM when Iona pays a visit to the McCann Center.
