Baltimore, MD - The Marist College women's basketball team lost at Loyola College 79-67 this evening in Baltimore, MD. Seniors Marie Fusci (Levittown, NY) and Diesa Seidel (Red Hook, NY) combined for 51 points for the Red Foxes. Seidel scored 16 of her 24 points in the first half, as the team went into intermission trailing 37-30. Marist then fell behind by as many as 17 points in the second half when they rallied to within five (65-60) with 3:57 remaining. The comeback was fueled by a 16-4 run that included four three-point field goals from Fusci who totaled 20 points in the second half and finished the night with a season high 27 points. The Greyhounds then converted on 14-16 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the win.
For the game Fusci hit six threes and shot 10-19 from the field. Seidel shot 10-17 from the field while pulling down eight rebounds to lead the Red Foxes (9-15, 5-10) who lost their seventh straight game.
Loyola (10-13, 4-10) received 16 points a piece from Laura Slater and Katie Netherton. Jennifer Mitchell also added 15 points and Lindsay Cobb scored 13 points and grabbed eight boards for the Greyhounds.
Marist shot .392 percent from the floor, while Loyola shot .532 percent including a .600 percent effort in the first half. The Greyhounds also held a big advantage at the foul line shooting 24-28 (.857) to the Red Foxes 6-8 (.750). Marist grabbed 14 offensive boards, but only totaled 29 rebounds to Loyola's 35.
The Red Foxes will continue their current road trip this weekend when they face host Rider at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 16th. The team will then return to action at the McCann Center on Friday, February 22nd at 7:00 PM against Iona before closing out the regular season with Senior Day on Sunday, February 24th against Siena. Game time is set for 2:00 PM.
