Lawrenceville, NJ - The Marist College women's basketball team snapped a seven game losing streak with a 73-63 win at Rider today in Lawreceneville, NJ. The Red Foxes fell behind 4-2 early in the game when senior Marie Fusci (Levittown, NY) knocked down the first of her five threes to put Marist in front to stay. Fusci hit her first four shots from downtown and totaled a game high 22 points.
The Red Foxes extend a 39-29 halftime lead to 18 at 59-41 with 9:04 remaining. The Broncs then went on a 17-6 run to cut the margin to seven (65-58) at 1:57. A field goal and two free throws by sophomore Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ) helped seal the victory for Marist which improved to 10-15 on the season and 6-10 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). With the loss Rider fell to 7-18 and 6-10 in the MAAC.
Del Preore recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 boards behind a 7-8 performance from the foul line. Senior Diesa Seidel (Red Hook, NY) also recorded a double-double, the 13th of her career, with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Leading scorers for Rider were Robin Stein with 17 points, Tanya Cross with 14 and Katie Hall with 10. Stein also pulled down a team high nine rebounds for the Broncs.
Marist limited Rider to .308 percent shooting, including .250 (3-12) from beyond the arc, while connecting on .385 percent of their attempts from the field. The Red Foxes also held a 52-45 rebounding advantage.
Marist will return to action on the court on Friday, February 22nd at 7:00 PM when they play host to Iona. The Red Foxes will then close out the regular season with Senior Day on Sunday, February 24th at 2:00 PM. There will be a short ceremony honoring the seniors before the game.
