Poughkeepsie, NY - The Red Foxes had five players score in double figures as they earned an 84-64 win over Iona in women's basketball at the McCann Center. Marist never trailed in the game as they improved to 11-15 on the year and 7-10 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
After Iona (7-19, 5-12) tied the game at 22-22 with 6:18 left in the first stanza, the Red Foxes closed out the half on a 16-6 run to gain control of the game. The Gaels were able to cut the margin to seven (55-48) midway through the second half, before a 12-2 run by Marist ended the threat.
Sophomore Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ) was the Red Foxes high scorer with 18 points, while senior Marie Fusci (Levittown, NY) added 17. Marist also received 13 points from senior Diesa Seidel (Red Hook, NY) and 11 points and eight assists from sophomore Nina Vecchio (Holmdel, NJ). Fellow sophomore Kerry Sullivan (Crompond, NY) chipped in 10 points and seven boards off the bench.
Jessica Attinelly's 20 points and six rebounds led the Gaels, who shot .423 percent from the field.
Marist shot .475 from the field, while out rebounding Iona 42-29.
The Red Foxes will close out the regular season with "Senior Day" at the McCann Center this Sunday, February 24th against Siena. There will be a short ceremony honoring the seniors before the game starts at 2:00 PM.
