Fairfax, VA--The Marist College baseball team earned a 22-8 victory this afternoon over host George Mason, avoiding a three-game weekend sweep. The Red Foxes, who improve to 4-4 on the year, scored 18 of their 2 runs in three different innings, batting around in each of those innings.
Marist took a 3-0 lead after the first three innings of play as senior Jimmy Willis continued to play well, hitting a two-run homer in the second, followed by and RNI single from Joey Salazar in the third inning. The Red Foxes broke the game open with a nine run fifth-inning, in which 14 batters came to the plate. Marist added five runs in the sixth, sending 11 batters to the plate, and then added a run in the eighth and four in the ninth, as 10 batters stepped to the plate.
Salazar had the hot bat on the day, going 4-6 with four RBI, while Willis had three RBI, as did Anthony Bocchino. Matt Griffiths, Mike Sidoti and John McGorty all had two RBI, as did Brandon Brower, who recorded a home run in the contest, as well.
Kevin Ool earned the victory, improving to 1-1 on the year. He struck out four batters and allowed five runs on six hits in six innings of work.
The Red Foxes will return to action on Wendesday, March 13th, in their home opener, as it takes on Army in a 3:00 pm contest.
