FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Marist College baseball team captured the rubber game of a three-game set with Fairfield, defeating the Stags 15-2, Sunday, at Alumni Diamond in Fairfield, Conn. The Red Foxes improve to 8-7 on the year and 2-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
Senior Anthony Bocchino had three hits for the Red Foxes, including a homerun and three RBI, in the process becoming the Red Foxes all-time hits leader. Bocchino surpassed the record of 262 held by Ryan Brady, and finished the weekend with 264 career hits.
John McGorty provided for four of the Red Foxes 19 hits, going 4-for-4 with a home run, two runs batted in, and three runs scored. The Red Foxes scored five runs in the third to break the game open, and drove out three homers on the afternoon. Third baseman Jimmy Willis also had a home run for the Red as he went 2-for-4 on the afternoon with three runs scored and three runs batted in.
Kevin Ool hurled seven innings yielding three hits, and walking only one base runner, while striking out three, to pick up the win for Marist College.
Fairfield falls to 8-8 on the year and 1-2 in MAAC play.
Marist will return to action on Wednesday, March 27th when it travels to take on Drexel in a 2:30 pm contest. The Red Foxes game scheduled for Tuesday at Villanova has been canceled.
