Lewiston, NY -- The Marist College baseball team swept a double-header from Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Niagara, 11-1 and 10-2, to run the program best win streak to 15 games, and improve 23-9 overall and 12-2 in MAAC play.
Anthony Bocchino led the Red Foxes offensive efforts going 7-11 on the afternoon, including two homeruns, two doubles and a triple. In the first game, Bocchino hit a homerun in his first at-bat a double in his second at-bat, another homer in his third at-bat, before tripling in his fourth plate appearance. He was robbed of the cycle in the ninth inning when the Niagara right fielder made a diving catch on line drive.
Kevin Ool provided a pair of solid starts on the mound for Marist, both improving to 6-2 on the year with the victories. Tracz struck out four, allowed one run and seven hits, while walking nobody. The sophomore now has 16 career wins, third all-time in Marist baseball history. Ool tossed a complete game, going seven innings in the second contest, allowing two runs on nine hits. Ool struck out eight batters while walking just one in earning the victory.
Steve O'Sullivan led off the first inning with a single, and then had a single in his second at-bat of the nightcap to stretch his hitting streak to 15 games.
Marist will look to complete its third MAAC weekend sweep in as many weeks, when it returns to Niagara for a single game, Sunday, April 21st, at 12:00 pm.
