Bocchino Gets 300th Career Hit In Red Foxes 17th Straight Win, 8-1 Over New York Tech

Old Westbury, NY-- The Marist College baseball team won its 17th consecutive game, defeating host New York Institute of Technology, 8-1, this afternoon on Presidents Field. The Red Foxes improve to 25-9 on the season, while NYIT falls to 23-12.

The Red Foxes afternoon was highlighted by the 300th career hit of all-time Marist hits leader, Anthony Bocchino (Brooklyn, NY). The Xaverian High School graduate, drove an RBI double down the left field line in the eighth inning for his 300th hit. For the day Bocchino was 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Ryan Kondratowicz (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) earned the win for Marist on the mound, improving to 4-0 on the year. The junior tossed eight innings of five hit, one run baseball, striking out four batters and walking just one in the contest. Chris Homer (Jamesville, NY) threw the ninth inning, striking out to batters while allowing just one base hit.

Marist scored two runs in the first inning, giving the pitching staff the breathing room it would need. Joey Salazar (Houston, TX) earned a one out walk, advanced to third on a Bocchino singled and scored on a Mike Sidoti (Staten Island, NY) single. Bocchino would score on a wild pitch.

Steve O'Sullivan (Bronx, NY) would score a run in the third inning. The senior stretched his hitting streak to 17 games, leading off the third with a double to left center, scoring on a Bocchino single. The Red Foxes would put the game away with a four run eighth inning, highlighted by Bocchino's 300h career hit, and a two RBI double from Tim Allen (Wappingers Falls, NY).

NYIT would break up the shutout bid in the eighth inning, scoring a run on a leadoff double and a two out single.

Freshman Kevin Buck (Scranton, PA) would get the run back for Marist in the top of the ninth, hitting home run down the left field line. The homer run is the first of Buck's career.

Sidoti continued to hit the ball well, going 3-5 with two RBI, and he now has seven RBI in the Red Foxes last two outing. O'Sullivan was 2-5 with a run scored on th day, and Allen was 1-4 with two RBI in the effort.

Marist will return to action on Thursday, April 25th as it hosts Sacred Heart University in a 3:30 pm contest. The Red Foxes return to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play over the weekend, hosting a three-games set with Manhattan, Saturday and Sunday, on the McCann Baseball Field. Marist is 13-2 in league play, one game behing 14-1 LeMoyne in the MAAC standing.
