Marist Men's Varsity Eight Ranked 20th Nationally in U.S. Collegiate Coaches Rowing Poll

Indianapolis, IN---The Marist College Men's Varsity Eight is ranked 20th in the nation in the latest U.S. Collegiate Coaches Rowing Poll, announced Wednesday, April 24th. The Red Foxes received 17 points, in earning their first top-20 ranking of the season. Topping the list was the University of California at Berkeley with 200 points, Harvard University was second tallying 188 points, and the University of Washington ranked third, registering 180 points. Also ahead of Marist were the 18th ranked Michigan Wolverines, who the Red Foxes defeated at Ithaca, NY, on March 30th, by 0.9 seconds.

The Men's Varsity Eight has had a string of victories in helping them earn the distinction. The Red Foxes recently notched wins at the President's Cup in Poughkeepsie, NY, and the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, NJ. With the win at the Knecht Cup, the Varsity Eight was named ECAC Crew of the Week on April 17th. In addition, the boat crossed the line first at the 2002 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, helping the Red Foxes earn their second consecutive team title.

The Marist College men's rowing team returns to action this Saturday, April 27th, as they travel to Lake Onota, NY, to take on Williams College, Coast Guard, Rochester, and Bates. The first race is scheduled for approximately 6:00 a.m.
