Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College baseball team won returned to its winning ways this afternoon with an 8-0 win over visiting Quinnipiac University, on the McCann Baseball Field. The Red Foxes have won 20 of their last 21 games and posted a 20-1 record during the month of April, including a program record 19 game win streak.
Ryan Kondratowicz (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) improved to 5-0 for the Red Foxes as he pitched 7.0 scoreless innings. He allowed just three hits in that time, while striking out six and walking just one. Kevin Shurtleff (Falls River, Mass.) and Chris Homer (Jamesville, NY) each worked a perfect inning in relief, with Homer striking out the first batter he faced in the ninth inning. The shutout is the second of the year by the Marist pitching staff, and the second in three games.
Anthony Bocchino (Brooklyn, NY) and Mike Sidoti (Staten Island, NY) would provide much of the offense for Marist, including two first inning runs. Joey Salazar (Houston, TX) worked a one out walk in the opening frame, and scored on a Bocchino triple. Sidoti would plate Bocchino with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Salazar doubled to left in the third inning, and after a Bocchino walk, Sidoti singled, scoring Salazar for a 3-0 lead. All told, Bocchino and Sidoti would combine to go 5-5 with five RBI and three runs scored, while Salazar finished 1-3 with two runs scored.
The Red Foxes tacked on two runs in each the seventh and eighth innings, as they improved to 28-10 on the year. Ben Cueto (Guttenbur, NJ) was 1-2 with an RBI off of the bench, and Matt Griffiths (Los Altos, CA) and John McGorty (West Sayville, NY) each added RBI in the victory for Marist.
Quinnipiac managed just three hits in the contest, all from Travis LaPointe, falling to 8-27 on the year. Mike Spahr took the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings of work, falling to 0-5 on the season.
Sidoti will lead the Red Foxes back to action on Wednesday, May 1st, when they travel to his native borough, Staten Island, to take on Wagner College. The game is set for 2:30 pm.
