Red Foxes Rally To Edge Big East Foe Seton Hall 5-4

South Orange, NJ - Senior Steve O'Sullivan (Bronx, NY) tripled with one out in the ninth-inning and scored on a wild pitch as the Marist College baseball team rallied to defeat Big East Conference member, Seton Hall, this afternoon on Owen T. Carroll Field. The win improves the Red Foxes to 35-11 on the year.

Seton Hall scored twice in the first inning and again in the third to take a 3-0 lead, which the Red Foxes erased with a three-run fifth-inning. John McGorty (West Sayville, NY)led off the inning with a walk, and advanced to second on a one out bunt single from Matt Griffiths (Los Atlos, CA). O'Sullivan drove in the first run with a double down the left field line, scoring McGorty. Griffiths would score on a ground out, which advanced O'Sullivan to third, allowing him to score on an infield single by Anthony Bocchino (Brooklyn, NY), tying the game at 3-3.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Pirates would score to take a 4-3 lead, which lasted until the seventh inning. Griffiths reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third when the Seton Hall first baseman misplayed an O'Sullivan grounder. Griffiths scored the tying run on a Joey Salazar (Houston, TX) single.

Brad Cook (Binghamton, NY) relieved starting pitcher Ryan Kondratowicz (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) to start off the seventh inning and would pitch to perfect inning, striking out three to earn the win, improving to 3-0 on the year. Chris Homer (Jamesville, NY) earned his 10th save of the year as he struck out the side in the ninth inning to preserve the one run lead O'Sullivan's run had provided in the top half of the ninth. Kondratowicz allowed four runs, three earned, in his six innings of work. He struck out seven of the 13 batters Marist pitching fanned on the day, while walking the lone Pirate of the afternoon.

The Red Foxes pitching staff lowered its nationally ranked ERA to 3.10 on the year. Through games of Sunday, May 12th, Marist ranked fourth in the country with an ERA of 3.17.

Bocchino went 3-5 with an RBI for the Red Foxes, while O'Sullivan scored twice, had an RBI and as 2-5 on the afternoon. Griffiths was 1-4 with two runs scored and Salazar finished the afternoon with two RBI and a 1-5 performance at the plate.

With the score tied 4-4 and one out O'Sullivan laced his team leading seventh triple of the year to left field. While Pirate reliever Isaac Pavlik was pitching to Salazar he uncorked a wild pitch allowing O'Sullivan to score.

Marist will return to action on Thursday and Friday, May 16-17th as they close up regular season Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play against Iona. The series will be played at the site of the 2002 MAAC Tournament, Dutchess Stadium, with a single nine-inning game being played Thursday night at 7:00 pm. The teams will play a double-header on Friday, beginning at 3:00 pm, with the rain make-up day being Sunday, May 19th.
