Fishkill, NY - Marist College earned a 7-1 victory over Rider University on Day One of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Baseball Tournament tonight at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill, NY.
The Red Foxes (38-12) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Mike Sidoti (Staten Island, NY). The Marist lead was then extended to 2-0 when Joey Salazar (Houston, TX) crossed the plate in the third.
The game was broken open in the bottom of the seventh by the Red Foxes when they scored four runs on two hits to take a 6-0 advantage. Tim Allen (Wappingers Falls, NY) had and RBI ground out and John McGorty (W. Sayville, NY) added a two run single and scored a run on an error in the frame.
The Rider (31-21) offense was provided by Scott Rich (Hamilton Square, NJ) who notched a RBI single in the top of the eighth inning for the Broncs.
On the mound for Marist Brad Cook (Binghamton, NY) worked the final 1 2/3 innings with out allowing a hit for the Red Foxes.
On the losing end for the Broncs was Bob Young (Palmerton, PA) (5-5) who surrendered four runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings of action.
At the plate for the Red Foxes Anthony Bocchino (Brooklyn, NY) was 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Casey Long (Shillington, PA) was 3-5 with a run scored for Rider.
Day two of the tournament tomorrow Friday, May 24th will see Siena College face Rider at 11:00 AM and LeMoyne College take on Marist at 3:00 PM. The losers of the first two games will then play an elimination game at 7:00 PM.
