Box Score

Lincoln, NE - The Marist College baseball team fell 9-1 to host and top-seed Nebraska in a winner's bracket matchup this afternoon at Hawks Field. The loss drops Marist to 41-13 and will force them into an elimination game versus Southwest Missouri State this evening.

The Cornhuskers struck early putting up a run in the first and then scoring five in the second, and three in the fourth to put the game out of reach for the Red Foxes. Kevin Ool started for the Red Foxes and gave up nine runs, only two earned, on 10 hits in his 3.1 innings of work, falling to 10-4 with the loss. Brad Cook pitched well in relief for the Red Foxes, shutting Nebraska out over the last 5.2 innings of the game. He struck out five batters, while allowing only three hits and walking just one batter.

Freshman Kevin Buck singled in the ninth inning for Marist and advanced to second on an out. He would come around to score on a Ben Cueto RBI single, breaking up the shutout bid of Nebraska.

Marist will now play in an elimination game at 8:05 pm CST against Southwest Missouri State. The winner of that game will play Nebraska on Sunday at 1:05 pm in the Championship Bracket.
