Men's Soccer Falls 7-1 To Albany In Season Opener

Sept. 1, 2002

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Marist College men's soccer team fell to the University of Albany, 7-1 at Leonidoff Field this evening.

Marist (0-1) scored first when Patrick Safino (Simsbury, CT) connected from 20 yards at 12:25 in the first half past the charging Albany goalkeeper, converting a feed from Alex Giotis (Howell, NJ). That would be the only shot for the Red Foxes as Albany (1-0) outshot Marist 19-1 for the match.

Albany scored seven goals in the second half, all of them coming in the final 31:30 of the game. Greg Chevalier led the Great Danes attack with three goals to record a hat trick. Ousmane Toure supplied some more offense for Albany with two goals. Ashtain Holmes added three assists while Geza Teleky and Mark Perez chipped in with a goal apiece.

The Red Foxes return to action on Sunday, September 8th, when they host Binghamton at 4 p.m., as part of a doubleheader following the Red Fox women's soccer match at 2 p.m. against Bucknell.
