New Rochelle, NY - The Marist College men's basketball team was defeated by the Iona Gaels 88-74 this evening at the Mulcahy Center. The Red Foxes fall to 7-9 on the season, with a 3-4 record in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. Iona improves to 10-7, with a 5-3 record in the conference.
The Gaels led 37-29 at halftime as they held on for the win. Iona shot 52.4 percent for the game, while Marist shot 37.5 percent.
David Bennett (Salt Lake City, UT) led Marist with a career-high 21 points, while Nick Eppehimer (Pottstown, PA) added 19 points, shooting 3-7 from behind the arc. Chris Handy (Salt Lake City, UT) added 12 points for the Red Foxes.
Steve Smith led Iona with 24 points as five players reached double figures for the Gaels. Steve Burtt, Jr. added 15 points and six rebounds, while Ricky Soliver had 13 points and eight rebounds.
The Red Foxes return to action on Sunday, January 26, when they host MAAC foe Siena in the second game of a doubleheader at the McCann Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
