Poughkeepsie, NY-The Marist College women's basketball team fell to the Golden Griffins of Canisius College, 60-53 tonight at the McCann Center. The Red Foxes fall to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.
Marist led with 3:30 left in the game when Canisius' Jill Knapic hit a three-pointer to tie the score at 53, the sixth time the game was tied. Canisius went ahead for good on a three-point shot by Janel Stevens with 1:54 remaining. The lead changed hands ten times throughout the game.
Junior forward Maureen Magarity (Wappingers Falls, NY) led Marist with 23 points, tying her career high, while grabbing eight rebounds. Magarity also recorded a career high in assists with five. Sophomore Laura Whitney (Warminster, PA) recorded a new career high in steals with six.
Canisius' Jenel Stevens led all scorers with 25 points and ten rebounds. Jill Knapic added 11, while Lonnie Brown grabbed eight boards.
Marist shot 37.9 percent from the field, while Canisius shot 36.2 percent.
The Red Foxes return to action Sunday, January 26th, against Niagara in a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
