Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College men's basketball lost an 81-68 decision to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe, Siena College this afternoon at the McCann Center.  The Red Foxes, who have lost two straight now, fall to 7-10 on the year and 3-5 in MAAC play, while Siena improves to 12-6 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
The Red Foxes trailed 37-31 at the intermission and opened the second half by scoring the first five points, a three pointer from Eric Siegrist (Poughkeepsie, NY) and a two-pointer from Chris Handy (Salt Lake City, UT),  but Siena scored the next 14 points to open a 51-36 lead with 16:00 remaining in the game.  The Saints opened the lead to 16 points, 54-38, with 2:30 later, and Marist responded with a pair of three-pointers from Brandon Ellerbee (Plano, TX) and a free throw from Dennis Young (Warrenton, GA) to cut the lead to nine points, 54-45 (9:18), but could not get any closer.  The Saints out scored Marist 15-2 over the next 5:00, to open their largest lead, 124 points, 71-47.  The Red Foxes closed the 13 in the final moments, but would get no closer.
Handy had a career game for the Red Foxes, leading the team with 16 points, nine boards and three blocked shots.  Ellerbee finished with 15 pints, including 3-4 from downtown in the second half.  He also added five assists and three steals. Young finished the game with 10 points and three assists.
The Saints, who shot 52.6 percent (30-57) from the floor for the game, had five players score in double-digits led by the 17-point effort of Justin Miller.  Prosper Karangwa nearly recorded a triple-double, finishing with 12 assists, 11 points and eight boards.  Tommy Mitchell had 15 points, Michael Haddix finished with 14 points, and Austin Andrews added 12 points for the Saints.
Siena out rebounded Marist 43-27 and had an 11-9 advantage on the offensive glass.  The Red Foxes had 19 assists and 10 turnovers in the game, while the Saints dished out 20 assists and committed 20 turnovers.
The two teams will meet again in six days, when the Red Foxes travel to Albany, NY, on February 1st, for a 1:00 pm game at the Pepsi Arena.  Marist will close out its season series with Rider on Wednesday, January 29th, at home, in a 7:30 pm game.
