Poughkeepsie, NY-The Marist College women's basketball team fell to the University of Pennsylvania Quakers 91-83 in overtime tonight at the McCann Center. This was the Red Foxes first loss to the Quakers in school history. Marist leads the series 3-1. The Red Foxes fall to 5-6 on the season.
Marist led by six points at the half, leading the Quakers 28-22. The two teams kept it close in the second, with the Red Foxes falling behind by six points. Kerry Sullivan (Crompond, NY) tied it up on a three-point shot with three seconds left in the game, sending it to overtime.
The Red Foxes fought hard in overtime, coming within four with 40 seconds left in the game, but the Quakers made their foul shots at the end, making the final score 91-83.
Sullivan led all scorers with 22 points, a new career high. She went 6-7 from the field, going 4-4 from behind the arc. Junior forward, Maureen Magarity (Wappingers Falls, NY), Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ), and Megan Vetter (Havertown, PA) all scored in double digits for the Red Foxes, only the second time this season.
Karen Habrukowich and Katie Kilker led the Quakers with 21 points apiece. Jewel Clark, who is their leading rebounder, grabbed eight on the night.
The Red Foxes return to action Thursday, January 9th, when they travel to take on Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival, Iona, in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at the Mulcahy Center.
