New Rochelle, NY-The Marist College women's basketball team defeated Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival, Iona College, 58-45 tonight at the Mulcahy Center. This marks the first win for Marist in 2003 as they improve their record to 6-6 on the season, and post a 2-1 record in the MAAC.

The score was tied at 23 at the half, but Marist was able to pull away in the second, opening an 11-point lead and finishing with a 13-point margin of victory. Junior guard, Nina Vecchio (Holmdel, NJ), hit two shots from behind the arc, helping lead the Red Foxes to the win. Vecchio also led the team in assists.

Junior forward, Stephanie Del Preore (Livingston, NJ) led all scorers with 15 points while grabbing nine rebounds. For the Gaels, Michelle Fahy and Sheena Howard each had ten points on the night.

The Red Foxes shot 35 percent for the game, while the Gaels shot 32 percent.

Marist returns to action Sunday, January 12th, when they travel to Manhattan to take on the Jaspers in a 2:00 p.m. tip-off. The Red Foxes return home Thursday, January 16th to host Rider at 7:00 p.m.
