Loudonville, NY - Marist College Red Foxes put a muzzle on the Siena Saints tonight as they went on to win their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game 3-1.
The Saints would rally from a four point deficit in the third game to tie the score 22-22. Sophomore Liz Hubbard would then take the lead for Siena as she serviced an ace into the Red Foxes court. The score would be tied for the second time at 23-23 when the Saints served an error. The Saints however would then go on a four-point rally to lead 27-23. Marist would not stay die as they recovered to tie the score for the third time at 27-27. The score would be tied two more times before freshman outside hitter Stefanie Miksch (Austin, TX/James Bowie) sealed the win at 31-29.
Miksch finished the evening posting a double double with 13 kills and 16 digs while junior setter Amy Gillespie (Lebo KS/NE Oklahoma A&M) was a mere three sets away from earning her second triple double on the season. Gillespie collected a team leading 15 kills, seven assists and 12 digs.
Senior middle blocker Christina Brozek (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) hit a team high .444 hitting percentage behind 15 kills and three errors. Freshman middle blocker Sally Hanson (Guerneville, CA/El Molino) added 11 kills three aces and three block solos. Sophomore setter Meghan Cochrane (Placentia, CA/El Dorado) chipped in 53 assists while classmate Kaite Lux (Wanatagh, NY/Sacred Heart) collected 26 digs on the game.
The Red Foxes will be in action once again on Saturday, October 4th when they head back to the capital district to take part in the Albany Tournament. The Red Foxes will face Providence at 1:00 pm followed by Sacred Heart at 4:00pm.
