Poughkeepsie, NY - The Marist College women's soccer team dropped a 5-2 decision to visiting Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Niagara, this evening on Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes fall to 1-9-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the MAAC, while Niagara improves to 4-5-2 on the year and 2-0-0 in league play.
The teams exchanged goal, with Michelle Del Monte scoring her first of two goals 15 minutes into the contest. The Red Foxes answered eight minutes later when Courtney Moore scored on a header off of a corner kick by Kathleen Murray. Del Monte made the score 2-1 four minutes after that, and the score would remain there at the intermission.
The Red Foxes struck first in the second half of play, as Laura Fil scored of off a deflection of a Murray corner kick in the 66th minute, but that would be all the offense for the Red Foxes. Niagara tallied three unanswered goal, Rosie Luzak at 69:57, Jenni Greiner at 77:10 and Jenna Sporta at 83:45.
Murray had two assists for the Red Foxes while starting goalkeeper Meredith Fabian made four saves in 45 minutes of action.
Luzak finished with a goal and an assist for the Purple Eagles. Katy Owens started and played 85 minutes in goal, making two saves and allowing both Marist goals. Melissa Himes played the final 5:00 and made two saves.
Marist returns to action on Sunday, October 12th, when it hosts MAAC foe Canisius in a 1:00 pm contest.
