Poughkeepsie, NY- The Marist College women's soccer team picked up its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) win of the year, with a 2-1, overtime victory, over visiting Canisius College, this afternoon on Leonidoff Field. The Red Foxes improved to 2-9-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play, while the Griffs drop to 1-8-1 on the year and 1-3 in MAAC action.

Deidre Murray (Matawan, NJ) crossed a ball to the middle of the box where Courtney Moore (Harwinton, CT) put a foot on it and placed the ball into the back of the net :17 into the first overtime, to give Marist the win.

Marist was stymied over the first 87 minutes of play, until Maria Reoch (Shirley, NY), who had just checked into the game, snuck a free kick from Kathleen Murray (Pleasanton, CA) inside the near post, knotting the score at 1-1, and forcing the overtime period.

With Marist controlling the flow of the scoreless game, Canisius struck first in at 55:07. Heidi Wein found the ball in a scramble in front of the Marist net, following a corner from Amanda Janosky, and put the Griffs on top, 1-0.

Meredith Fabian (Acton, MA) earned the win in net for the Red Foxes, as she made three saves in her 90:17 of action. Griffs goalkeeper Christine Moran played well in her 90:17 of action, making 12 saves, eight in the second half alone.

Marist out-shot the visiting Griffs 20-5 on the game, including 10-3 in the second half. The Red Foxes had 14 shots on goal, while Canisius managed just four. The Red Foxes also recorded 12 corner kicks, while giving up only three to the Griffs.

The Red Foxes return to action on Saturday, October 18th, as they travel to Loudonville, NY, to take on MAAC foe Siena College. That game is slated to begin at 1:00 pm.
