New Rochelle, NY- The women's soccer team was held scoreless for the second-straight game as Iona College squeaked by the Red Foxes 1-0 this afternoon. Marist falls to 2-11-1 and 1-4-1 in the MAAC, while the Gaels improve to 3-11-2 and 2-4-1.
The two teams played scoreless soccer in the first half as Marist took a 10-4 shot advantage into the intermission.
Freshman Sarah Monarch put the Gaels on the scoreboard just four minutes into the second half as she connected on a free-kick from 20 yards out.
Marist had a several golden opportunities turned away by Iona keeper Ticiana DiCarlo who stopped 12 shots en route to her fourth shutout of the year. Marist forward Kathleen Murray had two prime chances to score in the 83rd minute but was halted by DiCarlo. Murray was unable to convert a free-kick from seven yards out and an ensuing penalty kick that would have tied the game at 1-1.
Senior goalie Meredith Fabian tallied six saves on the day, as Marist out shot Iona 23-12 in the game.
The Red Foxes are back in action on Sunday, October 26th, as they take on the Stags of Fairfield for their final regular season road game. The Marist squad returns to Leonidoff Field on Friday, October 31st for a 7:00pm contest against Saint Peter's.
